Once Upon a Book
Illustrated for: Personal Project
I'm a little bit obsessed with the opening lines of novels. I love how a single line has the power to pull you into a story from the off. I had a desire to explore these sentences in more depth and then it hit me that I should illustrate them.
The Master and Margarita, Mikhail Bulgakov
At the sunset hour of one warm spring day two men were to be seen at Patriach's Ponds.
Lord of the Flies, William Golding
The boy with the fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way to the lagoon.
The Road, Cormac McCarthy
When he woke in the dark and cold of the night he'd reach out to touch the child sleeping beside him.
The Talented Mr Ripley, Patricia Highsmith
Tom glanced behind him and saw the man coming out of the Green Cage, heading his way.
